Vegetarian Options at Wabi-Sabi Noodle House

One's health is prized very highly nowadays and the local food industry has recognized this need to improve man's food options and came up with lots of great resto selections. But sometimes they came at a high price.

So here comes Wabi-Sabi, a simple hole-in-the-wall place near Tomas Morato in Quezon City who gives us an affordable taste of their vegetarian fare.

Tantanmen Ramen (Php 180.00)
Of course I ordered my favorite type of ramen. My verdict? A bit flat but I guess I sort of expected it because this is a healthier option after all. But not bad.
Chahan Rice (Php 70.00)
Flavorful and a must-have when you order their viand options
Mushroom Shumai (Php 55.00)
Healthier version of our favorite dimsum. Not that strong in taste but you can always add some of that dipping sauce for stronger flavor.
Veggie Crackling (Php 60.00)
Their take on the famous porky Chicharon. A bit bland but again but it is indeed healthier. I think they can amp this up a bit by having other dipping sauce options.
Sweet Corn and Cream Cheese Tempura (Php 85.00)
Now this we all loved! I like the combination of the corn and cream cheese and then deep-fried, add some salt and it's packing! I would love to learn how to do this at home.
Thai Milk Tea (Php 60.00)
Tastes like my favorite!
This is love love love!
Bahn-My (Php 150 whole, Php 75 half)
I loved Banh Mi since the first time I had it in Vietnam and finding one here in the metro that comes near to the taste of the authentic one that I had was a challenge. Their version is vegetarian so it does not come near my expectations but it's not bad at all. It's actually good in its own special way.  And affordable.
Veggie Feast!

This is a nice and cozy place for a quiet night alone or with close friends. Just a few tables available but there are some outside. The service was great and the food was equally healthy-good. And the prices are very fair.

I guess becoming vegetarian is not an option for me now but it is indeed nice to take a break from your usual grub and have something healthier instead.

I say, give this place a try. You just might like it.

The Baker's Table: 80s & 90s Candies in a Cake

Found a dessert place that brings me back to my childhood's past.

A part nostalgic and a big part excited is what I felt when I ordered their Butterball Caramel Cake and Potchi Cheesecake. I mean, these candies played a big role in during my formative years and having them in a cake/cheesecake version was something to look forward to.

Butterball Caramel Cheesecake (Php110.00)
Very light and not too sweet. You can definitely taste the Butterball candy in every bite. This I like. The owner/baker who was there that night said that he uses real Butterball candy which he melted. This is one of their bestsellers
Potchi Cheesecake (Php110.00)
Most and very Potchi indeed! I With that hint of sourness that makes it more delectable. Love that pink shade of the top layer.
Yay for nights like this!
Choices, choices, choices..
See, they are really good!Inquirer says so.
Free candies in the house!
Small in space but big in quality
Two thumbs up! =)

Caution Hot! for the Spicy Noodle Kick

Another near Maginhawa Street food find!

Noodles, noodles and more noodles!
The place is small but has a welcoming vibe. And it fills quickly too. This has become a popular place mighty fast with the college and neighborhood crowd.

There are steps to do to place your noodle order:
STEP 1 - Choose your toppings (All-veggie, pork, beef or seafood)
STEP 2 - Choose your broth (Szechuan, Asam Laksa or Classic)
STEP 3 - Choose your noodles (Wheat or egg noodles)
STEP 4 - Choose your spicy burn! (1st, 2nd, 3rd degree or THE Ultimate burn)

My order, the Szechian broth with beef toppings and egg noodles topped with a sunny side-up egg. This was the first time I encountered such (fried egg) but it was good, in sort of a unique way. 1st degree burn only. I did not want to test my spicy fate that day.

I found the spiciness level very mild and for sure, the next visit, I would be having a more stronger choice.
The bf's choice. 3rd degree burn Szechuan borth with beef toppings too. The spiciness indicator is in the color! Notice how my order above was yellow in color while this one is in a red orange color. At first you would feel the heat right away but it wanes down fast also.
Kuchay-Pork Dumplings (5pcs for Php60)
I liked this! This worked well with my soup.
Unlimited Soya (Php70) and Unlimited Iced Tea (Php60)Coolers to pan out the heat in your mouth. I prefer the iced tea though.
The noodle feast! Love all the colors in our bowls and glasses.
Happy tummy!

My judgement on this? I loved it! Each noodle bowl will cost you less than Php200 each. Quite a steal for that standout meal.

Truly a must-try! =)

Rita's Italian Ice against Summer Heat

So I guess Italian ice is good! That was my thought when I first had a spoonful of my Rita's gelati.

It really took some effort for me to go here together with my colleague, we were in the area for an official work reason. But luck brought us here so we decided to take advantage.

On that particular hot day, we finally found cold happiness in a cup.

Many flavored ice to choose from. And good thing here was that you can request for a taste test before making your final choice. I had 3-4 before I ended up with my cotton candy one.
You can choose between 1-flavor or have it in a twirl, meaning 2 flavors!

Our choices! I chose Cotton Candy flavored ice and chocolate and vanilla twist custard. Frozen custard is just ice cream, sounded fancy but it was really simple. Both are good and great for this hot weather!
Great first experience for me.

The combination of flavors was a wonderful mix in my mouth. I'm excited try other combos next time around!

Thumbs up! =)

Green Pigs' Kitchen: Of Good Food and Quaint Tea Cups

Another off-the-radar restaurant ticked of my list!

Green Pigs' Kitchen was highly recommended by a colleague so we were all curious to give this a shot. Located at one of the Scout streets in QC, it has a lot of competitors but this place has a unique charm of its own.
Pumpkin Soup (Php 100.00)
Very fine yet creamy. A great starter to a great meal.
Grilled Pork Belly (Php 200.00)
Very tender and the marinade was the right mixture of sweet and salty. Even that fatty part calls out to you.
Rosemary Chicken (Php 245.00)
Not my order but I had a slice and it was good. This I will order on my next visit!
Chicken Parmigiana (Php 245.00)
You can get to choose what carbs you want rice or pasta to go with your chicken. I chose the pasta and they complimented each other. I liked this but I think I would order another dish in my next visit. But I'm glad I finally tried this.
Baked Creamy Sole (Php 260.00)
I like creamy dishes so this was a hit for me.
Sweet and Sour Pork/Fish
I do not remember what meat it was because this was not my order, a colleague's, but it was a part of their budget menu. It's pretty good for budget!
Strawberry Crepe Cake (Php 95.00)
This we all liked! It was gone in a few short minutes. A delight!
Red Velvet Cupcake
I'm not really a fan of cupcakes so this is just okay with me. But it was moist and the cream cheese was rich so..
THE MENU

They also offer jams and jar cakes
The Merchandise: TEA SETS
Prices vary. I liked the Victorian ones but it's too quaint for me. I might just break it instantly so I passed on it. The pair that I liked was for Php 1,200, if I remember correctly.

The food is good and reasonable but their tea sets are really something else. Eating here gave me a feeling of aristocracy, sort of, because we were surrounded by all those gorgeous and intricate tea cups. And, it's also a place where you can eat with privacy. Only few tables available. You can have the place for a private function if you want, you just have to coordinate with them.

Thumbs up!
